<p>Most people won’t do anything that isn’t either interesting or fun. For the majority of us trying to lose weight  doesn’t fall into either category. That is unless you love to exercise, or find it fun to deprive yourself of your favorite foods. If that is the case, you probably shouldn’t be reading this. As for the rest of us, let’s face it, most of us are just too overworked, stressed out, or just plain tired, to think about a heavy exercise regiment. Of course, when everything lets us down, we always have our best friend, food.</p>
<p>In the next few minutes I am going to introduce you to a proven program that not only will help you lose whatever it is that you want to, but shows a fun way you can continue to eat your favorite foods. First, however, we want to look at the reasons why most diet programs fail. Remember, as with anything, what works for some people doesn’t always work for everyone. That is why we have so many weight loss systems, books and programs. We all have heard of The Atkins Diet, The Pritikin Principle, The South Beach Diet, and of course there is  Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers. This not to mention the hundreds of diet pills, powders and potions there are in the market.</p>
<p>Rather than try to describe each weight loss product, I’ve broken different methods used by them into categories. As a consumer you must be made aware of the myths that persist in the weight loss industry.</p>
<p><strong>Starvation Diet</strong></p>
<p>I know it sounds ridiculous to say that someone who is starving themselves is on a diet. But for the hundreds of thousands of women who pop pills and binge, it is a reality. Plain and simple, your body needs food to function properly. There are so called liquid diets, and programs that tell you to eat as little as possible. Losing weight this way is  actually worse for you than gaining weight. Without proper nutrients, your body will systematically break down.</p>
<p><strong>Eating Low Carbs</strong></p>
<p>You have probably tried or heard of someone who has tried the diet plans that consist of eating only low carbs. For some this may work, but for most of us life will be miserable. <p><strong>Some popular diets today are:</strong> the South Beach diet, the Zone diet, the Atkins diet, Macrobiotics, Weight Watchers, Raw Foods, Life Choice&#8230;.etc. and they promise to deliver &#8211; if you can stay with the program to the letter.</p>
<p><strong>But the question is: do any of these diets really work ?</strong> If some of these popular, highly advertised diet plans do achieve the weight loss promised, why do so many dieters tend to re-gain their weight back, and more times than not, why do they eventually end up gaining back more weight than when they started on the diet?</p>
<p><strong>From experience, I can tell you this :</strong> these diets are not made for everyone &#8211; if every person who wanted to lose weight all went on the same diet, it would work for some, and not for others. Everyone has a different metabolism, different systemic needs, different digestion &#8211; every person is an individual with a body system that is different in some way from every other person.</p>
<p><strong>Popular diet plan promoters want you to believe</strong> that everyone who is really motivated to lose weight, should choose their special _____________( fill in the blank&#8230;) diet &#8211; and they will lose weight and succeed !!! And of course, they show you numerous &#8220;before and after&#8221; photos to convince you that their diet is the only one that really works, and that you too will soon be thin and attractive.</p>
<p><strong>Many people have had success</strong> with low carb and other popular diets. On the other hand, many others fail on these diets, as not every diet is for every person. Some diet-educated people actually make up their own personalized diet and this works for them&#8230;but in most cases, losing weight requires guidance, discipline, and life style changes which a good diet guide or diet plan can provide.</p>
<p><strong>So, if you need to lose weight</strong>, do some research and learn all that you can before starting on any diet. Look it up online and check out the successes &#8211; and the side effects&#8230; Consult your doctor and take the diet information with you and ask questions.</p>
<p><strong>In my own experience with dieting I learned Rule # 1</strong> about weight loss: If you take in more calories than you burn off every day, you will gain weight. If you burn off more calories than you take in, you will lose weight &#8211; sounds simple and it is, but even this rule has it&#8217;s own rules&#8230; a starvation diet of 1,000 calories a day will eventually put your system on &#8220;hold&#8221; &#8211; you won&#8217;t lose any more weight, as your body thinks it&#8217;s starving, and will &#8220;hold on&#8221; to any calorie it can get for survival. Eventually, you will eat &#8211; and gain.</p>
<p>I have personally found that a balanced daily diet combined with different forms of exercise up to 3 hours per week works best for me &#8211; but many people don&#8217;t have the time to exercise 2 to 3 hours or more&#8230;</p>
<p>As mentioned above, it&#8217;s best to do the research on any diet that you are interested in first, and then make an educated decision for yourself.</p>

<p>Most people won’t do anything that isn’t either interesting or fun. For the majority of us trying to lose weight  doesn’t fall into either category. That is unless you love to exercise, or find it fun to deprive yourself of your favorite foods. If that is the case, you probably shouldn’t be reading this. As for the rest of us, let’s face it, most of us are just too overworked, stressed out, or just plain tired, to think about a heavy exercise regiment. Of course, when everything lets us down, we always have our best friend, food.</p>
<p>In the next few minutes I am going to introduce you to a proven program that not only will help you lose whatever it is that you want to, but shows a fun way you can continue to eat your favorite foods. First, however, we want to look at the reasons why most diet programs fail. Remember, as with anything, what works for some people doesn’t always work for everyone. That is why we have so many weight loss systems, books and programs. We all have heard of The Atkins Diet, The Pritikin Principle, The South Beach Diet, and of course there is  Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers. This not to mention the hundreds of diet pills, powders and potions there are in the market.</p>
<p>Rather than try to describe each weight loss product, I’ve broken different methods used by them into categories. As a consumer you must be made aware of the myths that persist in the weight loss industry.</p>
<p><strong>Starvation Diet</strong></p>
<p>I know it sounds ridiculous to say that someone who is starving themselves is on a diet. But for the hundreds of thousands of women who pop pills and binge, it is a reality. Plain and simple, your body needs food to function properly. There are so called liquid diets, and programs that tell you to eat as little as possible. Losing weight this way is  actually worse for you than gaining weight. Without proper nutrients, your body will systematically break down.</p>
<p><strong>Eating Low Carbs</strong></p>
<p>You have probably tried or heard of someone who has tried the diet plans that consist of eating only low carbs. For some this may work, but for most of us life will be miserable. The body can’t function on a low carb diet and will cause you to have headaches, irritability and sleep loss. You will end up gaining weight after the initial weight loss.</p>

<p>We all know dieting is important to maintaining a healthy body and great shape. We also probably know that the best diet is one that focuses on balance. We&#8217;ve learned the food pyramid; we know to include multiple colors on our dinner plate; we get it.</p>
<p>But, for some reason, we just can&#8217;t live it. If we&#8217;re going to have cheesecake, we have a big ol&#8217; hunk of the stuff; if we&#8217;re going to order a pizza, we order extra cheese and pile on the greasy toppings. And then, when we want to shed five or ten pounds, we opt for speedier options than a balanced diet can provide: we do the no-carb, all-carb, milkshake, cookie diets that are advertised everywhere. And six months later, we do it again.</p>
<p>There are women who reach for balance, though, however unsuccessfully. The Weight Watchers program is just one example of a company that pushes itself as a &#8220;lifestyle&#8221; rather than a diet, and it really does seem to stress the importance of balance in each meal. But here&#8217;s the thing: a very close friend of mine lives on Weight Watchers. A year ago, she was on the program slimming down before her wedding; now she&#8217;s on the program slimming down after the wedding. She&#8217;s very healthy and fit, but she counts the &#8220;points&#8221; of every single thing she puts in her mouth. Her kitchen is stocked with margarine, skim milk, and fake sugar. Most of her meals are made with cans and packages. She&#8217;s convinced her new husband to call her out on how many points the sugar cookie she&#8217;s about to put in her mouth contains.</p>
<p>Then I have this other friend who is just as healthy and fit (and, frankly, a lot skinnier) who never diets and never counts. Yeah, we can talk about genes and metabolism but ultimately, I think she&#8217;s just found that balance. She alone of everyone I know really seems to get it. She puts real cream in her tea and coffee. She bakes with real sugar. But she also eats  worth of fresh produce every week and cooks with only fresh ingredients. She makes her own salad dressings so she can control how much oil goes into it. She&#8217;s taught me how to make my own pasta sauce and guess what? It&#8217;s impossibly easy to do! She skips over hydrogenated oils in margarine in preference for real butter—she just doesn&#8217;t use as much as the rest of us.</p>
<p>Finding that balance is hard. In fact, even though I knew balanced meals were the key to staying healthy and slim, I always thought dieting was an essential part of that process, at least every once in awhile. I&#8217;ve learned better by befriending these two women. Neither is doing anything wrong—my Weight Watchers friend is healthy, gorgeous, and happy with her life—but the balanced life method seems much simpler to me. I&#8217;m not very good with numbers.</p>
